A starting point - adjust to your beans.
The cone gives you more control than any other dripper and punishes you for it. If the taste wanders between brews, it is almost always the pour, not the coffee.
How to go about it
Rinse the paper with hot water and tip the water away. It takes the paper taste with it.
Wet the grounds with about twice their weight in water and let them swell.
Pour the rest in slow circles, keeping the bed covered but never flooded.
Draining much faster than the target time means the grind is too coarse - and the cup will taste thin.
