Espresso
Americano
Espresso lengthened with hot water, poured in that order.
- Ratio
- 1:2 - 1:4
- Water
- 120-180 ml
- Water temp
- 90-96 °C
A starting point - adjust to your beans.
No standards body defines this one - the ratio here is what cafés actually pour, and it is meant to be adjusted rather than followed.
How to go about it
Pull a double espresso into the cup.
Add hot water on top, slowly, until the strength is where you want it.
Do not boil the water. Boiling water thins the crema and pulls out a harsh edge.
Where these numbers come from
Common café practice.
